Potential Head Coaches

The Philadelphia Stars have a long and storied tradition, the likes of which features Pro Football Hall of Famer Sam Mills, legendary NFL Coach Jim Mora Sr. and many more. Also, the newest edition of the Philadelphia Stars will have to compete with a rich USFL tradition of three eastern conference championships and two USFL Championships. Tradition usually is a fertile ground for potential success, this starts with a coaching staff, most importantly the head football coach. In this article, we will lay out the three best head coaching candidates for the Philadelphia Stars. All three of these men have a connection to the city of Philadelphia or the Stars, as well as having demonstrated success at the highest levels of football, both college and pro.

The first candidate for the position of Head Football Coach of the Philadelphia Stars is Todd Bowles. Bowles, A Temple legend who has coached and developed as a player and as a coach under Bruce Arianas at Temple and then Bowles would go onto to have great career as a player in the NFL then as a coach with both the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as Defensive Coordinator, as well as a stint with the New York Jets as Head Coach. Bowles is a great leader, and someone universally respected as a schemer and player's guy.

An offensive-minded candidate for the position of Head Football Coach of the Philadelphia Stars could be former Florida Head Football Coach Dan Mullen, a Drexel Hill, PA native and Ursinus College Graduate. Mullen was responsible for not only developing Tim Tebow, an All-American and Heisman Trophy Winner while he was at Florida, but also Alex Smith, Heisman Trophy Finalist, All-American who would go on to a 16-year NFL career, when was head offensive signal caller for Utah, and Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, as Head Coach of Mississippi State.

The perfect hire could be Sam Mills III, the current defensive line coach for the Washington Football Team. The name, the background says it all, he is the son of Philadelphia Stars legend Sam Mills. Mills III has also played a pivotal role in developing an elite defensive line with the likes of Chase Young, D`ron Payne and Jonathon Allen. Finally, Ron Rivera had this to say in a press release about the hiring of Sam Mills III to Defensive Line Coach of the Washington Football Team, "Sam sees the game from a different perspective, He's very interested in how the league operates, how the game operates. By that I mean he's a guy that pays attention to the rules, he pays attention to replay, and he understands time management and score management." All of those skills are critical for success as a head coach.

This decision will most certainly set the tone for the success of the organization.
